The Mexico Fest 2010 is a ten day celebration of the Mexican Independence bicentennial and revolution centennial. It starts today, September 7th, and runs until the 17th. A list of all the events in Vancouver can be found at Mexico Fest events page.
Rather than list everything here, I’ve decided to feature events in the neighbourhood. Today’s opening events will be held at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. It’s the place to be tonight!
6:00-7:00 PM: MEMORIAS DE UNA JORNADA
The photography exhibition of veterans from the 1910 Mexican Revolution is by Jon Bertelli, an internationally established photographer who lives in Vancouver, BC.
“In 1997 I was surrounded by good friends, great food and music in the state of Morelos, Mexico when the stories of Legendary Emiliano Zapata and his fearless followers stimulated my curiosity. Next day on my bright orange 1973 VW and armed with a plentiful supply of film I embarked myself on a quest: finding the last Zapatistas to capture their images.”
